What is an immersive dining experience?
If you’re reading this and you’ve been lucky enough to have already been to an immersive dining experience then you’ll know what we’re talking about.
An immersive dining experience is an event that engages diners’ senses through a combination of sensory techniques that transform the dining setting into a narrative-driven environment where guests are not just eating, but are watching a story or experience unfold around them.
These immersive experiences will host a combination of event technology, thematic decor, ambient sound and even interactive performances to enhance the experience for the dining guests.
At Airdrawn, we’re well versed with immersive rooms and dining experiences…
We recently completed a multi-year project for the world renowned Brooklands restaurant at the Peninsula London hotel. Diners are treated to the illusion of flight by our multi-layered video display, constructed from a backdrop of diffused LED panels and a holographic front screen.
This whole system runs in real time (via software programmed by our friends at Studio Giggle), producing beautiful sky gradients with vortices reminiscent of vapour trails and sonic booms.
Accompanied by breathtaking 50ft long, machined aluminium Concorde and with theming around Sir Michael Kadoorie’s love for flight and historic automobiles this two Michelin star restaurant provides one hell of an immersive experience. You can read more about this installation on its case study page.
Another example of an immersive dining experience is the Japanese restaurant MoonFlower Sagaya Ginza where guests are surrounded by 360-degree projection, including the table, plates and walls.
Using projectors to display dynamic images and animations on surfaces, the restaurant effortlessly turns ordinary tables and walls into a video story. You could see a table come to life with a projected scene of a river flowing through a forest, with animated fish swimming, which changes to reflect different courses of the meal. The walls can even be transformed to show a panoramic view of different environments or historical events, enhancing the thematic experience of the evening.
Guests become part of the story, truly immersing themselves in both food and place.
The possibilities are endless. Themed and/or branded immersive dining experiences and rooms are going to be getting bigger and bolder in the near future.
We’re able to design, integrate and support multi-media installations such as the examples shown above. With the creative use of technology, we’re able to immerse guests and transport them into a new sensory experience unlike anything they would have experienced before.
